Alineacion del arco

Bow Alignment

Hola a todos, Espero estén bien y entrenando duro.

A finales del año pasado tuve la suerte de encontrar una serie de videos de un seminario técnico que dio el Profesor Park, Dueño de W&W en el club QUICKS Archery de Escocia. Videos que ellos mismos publicaron en Youtube, pueden encontrar el primero en la siguiente liga.

Durante el seminario técnico el profesor Park describe las características de un buen arco, sin importar la marca o modelo, Claro que en cada punto resalta la mejora presente en sus últimos arcos, los WIAWIS. Pero todos los conceptos son aplicables a cualquier arco.

En este artículo hablaré de la alineación del arco.

El profesor Park explica la importancia de una buena alineación, y las características que la definen. Durante el disparo la cuerda se mueve principalmente en un plano formado por la cuerda, las ramas y el maneral. Pero recordemos que no sólo se mueve la cuerda, sino también las ramas, quienes son la mayor masa en movimiento, la que puede casar efectos negativos en el disparo. Es el movimiento de las ramas el que provoca la reacción del arco que tratamos de controlar con los estabilizadores.

Cuando un arco no está bien alineado entones el movimiento de las ramas provoca un torque lateral desde el grip durante el disparo que afecta negativamente ya que el arco rota lateralmente, desde el centro de presión del grip hacia el lado opuesto a la des-alineación, mientras la flecha sigue en la cuerda y pasando por el maneral. Un arco bien alineado no produce torque y permite una mayor consistencia en el disparo.

Lo que queda por saber es que caracteriza a la alineación correcta de un arco.

De acuerdo con el profesor Park la alineación correcta es al centro del grip, que es el centro del arco, esto porque el centro de presión  del grip es el punto de apoyo del arco durante el disparo, desde donde se genera el torque. En un arco de buena calidad el centro del grip también es el centro del maneral y las ramas.

Esto es importante porque también nos puede ayudar a neutralizar el torque lateral que ejerce el arquero con su mano. Esto porque podemos encontrarnos con alguien que por sus características particulares no le es posible tener un agarre neutral, aplicando un torque no intencional al grip que no se puede corregir, pero se puede intentar compensar por medio de una desalineación intencional, pero estamos hablando de casos especiales.

También hay textos de afinación que hablan de corregir un spine incorrecto por medio de una desalineación intencional, sin embargo no está claro cómo hacerlo, ni que efectos pueda tener en la vida de nuestro equipo, por lo que no recomiendo intentarlo.

Hay herramientas que nos ayudan a verificar la alineación fácilmente.

Una correcta alineación del arco permite que el comportamiento lateral del arco sea neutral y un poco más tolerante a nuestros errores. Una mala alineación puede provocar que nuestro grupo se desvíe o que no llegue a ser tan compacto como debiera serlo por interferencia del arco durante el disparo. Este desajuste puede no ser demasiado grave, en el sentido de que no ganemos muchos puntos al corregirlo, pero hará que nuestro arco sea más tolerante al error y no perdamos tantos puntos. En mi caso mejorar la alineación me ayudó a llegar de 315 a 320 a 70mt.

During the tech-seminar Professor Park addresses the characteristics of a better bow, regardless of brand or model. Obviously for each point described he remarks the related design improvement present on his new bows, the WIAWIS. But all concepts are applicable to any bow.

In this article I will talk about bow alignment.

Professor Park explains the importance of a good alignment and the characteristics of one. During the shot the string moves primarily on a plane made between riser, limbs and string. But remember that not only the string is moving, but also the limbs, which are the mayor moving mass, the ones that can cause a negative effect on the shot. It is the limb movement the one that causes the bow reaction that we try to control via the stabilizers.

When a bow is miss-aligned then the limb movement causes a lateral torque from the grip during the shot, this torque can affect negatively the shot as the bow revolves from the grip’s center of pressure towards either side contrary to the miss-alignment while the arrow is still attached to the string and passing through the bow window. A well aligned bow will produce no lateral torque from the shot allowing for a better consistency, grouping.

All we need to know is how to proper align the bow.

According to professor Park the correct alignment is to the center of the grip, which is the real center of the bow, this because the center of pressure of the grip is the point of origin for any torque generated on the bow. In a good quality bow the center of the grip corresponds with the center of the riser and limbs.

This is important because it can help us neutralize the lateral torque from the archer’s bow hand. This because we could find someone that because of his personal characteristics it isn’t possible to achieve a neutral hand position on the grip, causing a lateral torque not possible to correct, but we can try compensate for it by intentionally miss-aligning the bow to the opposite side of the torque generated by the archer, but this are special cases.

There are also some tuning texts that claim that one can miss-align the bow intentionally to force tuning an incorrect spine, except that it isn’t clear how to do it nor the effect it can have in our equipment’s life span, so I don’t recommend to try it.

A correctly aligned bow allows for a more neutral lateral behavior of the bow and for it to be more tolerant to error. A miss-alignment can cause for our group to deviate to a side or not to be as compact as it could be because of the bow’s interference during the shot. This adjustment could be not as bad, in the sense that we may not gain many points by correcting it, but we may not drop that many points. In my case this helped me to go from 315 to 320 at 70mt.

Inno AXT – Tech Review

Hola a todos, espero estén muy bien y entrenando duro, yo por el momento no puedo entrenar por causas ajenas que espero se resuelvan pronto.

Hoy hago mi Tech Review del Win&Win INNO AXT, mi maneral desde diciembre del año pasado, puedes leer mis primeras impresiones aquí. He tardado un poco en hacer este tech review porque me ha tomado tiempo poder disfrutar realmente de este maneral.

Como ya saben este maneral es el hermano del CXT, por lo que comparte todas sus características de diseño excepto por las relacionadas espcíficamente al material. El cambio de material significa que las características inherentes al mismo ahora son las mismas a las que estamos acostumbrados de los manerales de aluminio pero con todas las prestaciones de velocidad, estabilidad y precisión del CXT.

El CXT ha sido uno de los manerales más ganadores de W&W, sin embargo los manerales de carbón aislan naturalmente la vibración por lo que no tenemos una senzación del disparo, sin embargo es un maneral de la más alta precisión y muy rápido. Todo esto lo hereda el AXT pero regresando la retroalimentación a la mano del arquero, ahora podemos saber si fue un buen disparo o no con el mismo desempeño del CXT. El resultado es un arco muy bien balanceado, muy rápido y de alta precisión, como lo demostró el campeón Olímpico en Río.

Y no digo que el CXT sea inferior, sólo que para alguien como yo que trabaja con la senzación del disparo es más atractivo un maneral que me ofrece esa característica, en especial si no tengo todo el tiempo de entrenar como para no depender de laretroalimentación del maneral.

Al grip es muy cómodo, pero la zona de presión es algo plana, esto me provocó que con el descanso de invierno no tuviera una buena repetición en la postura de la mano, provocando que tuviera problemas para agrupar. Sin embargo quiero resaltar que mi grip anterior es muy redondo y tenía 10 años con el, por lo que cualquier cambio haría ruido.

El peso de 1330g realmente no se siente mucho cuando llego al anclaje, pero tuve la precaución de reducir el peso de mis estabiizadores por unos días al principio para acostumbrarme. El balance del peso es excepcional, su rigidez provoca que al anclar no sientas tanto libraje, esto junt con el peso adicional me permite apuntar muy estable y ejecutar con confianza.

Este es un maneral para alcanzar 340pts con la confianza de uno de los mejores diseños disponibles, lo que le falta es un arquero que lo deje trabajar.

El acabado anodizado es de la mejor calidad, pero es un poco delgado para que tenga la apariencia metálica, esto lo hace que conduzca mejor el calor. Sto no es un problema en sí, pero en días muy fríos la superficie metalica se vuelve helada, incluso llega a condensar humedad.

Me he tardado en disfrutar este maneral porque la diferencia en el grip, en el comportamiento y el descanso de invierno me provocaron una caida en mi desempeño, misma que he tardado 7 meses de duro trabajo recuperar. Y no es por el arco, sino por mí. Yo estaba muy acostumbrado a mi maneral anterior, su peso, balance, sonido y grip, eso es lo que me ha costado trabajo, acostumbrarme a lo nuevo de este maneral.

Today I make My tech Review on the Win&Win INNO AXT, my riser since December last year, you can read my first impressions here. It has taken me some time to do this review because it has also take me some time to really enjoy this riser.

As you know this riser is the brother of the CXT, as such it shares all its design characteristics except the ones specific to the material nature. The change in material means that the material characteristics are now the same that we’re used to from aluminum riser but with all the performance of the CXT on speed, stability and precision.

The CXT is one of the most successful risers from W&W, yet the carbon risers isolate the vibration from the hand by material nature inhibiting feedback, although it is of the highest precision, as fast as they come. This features are carried on to the AXT but restoring the shot feedback to the archer’s hand, now we can know if it was a good shot with the performance of the CXT. The result is a very well balanced bow, very fast, and of the highest precision, as demonstrated by Olympic Champion at Rio.

And I’m not saying that the CXT is inferior in any way, it’s just that for someone like me that works strongly with the shot sensation a riser with this characteristic is more appealing, especially as I have little time to train, not enough to not depend so much in the shot sensation and riser feedback.

This grip is quite comfortable, but the pressure zone is somewhat flat, this along with the winter break made me have some inconsistency issues of hand placement, and grouping. Although I want to remark that my previous grip is rather round, this gave me very easy to achieve good hand placement, plus a 10 year usage would make for any change to input noise into the system.

Weighting 1330g is very comfortable at full draw, but I used less weight on my stabilizers as a precaution for a few days, to get used to. The weight balance is exceptional, its rigidity makes you don’t feel poundage stack, along with the weight it all allows to aim very comfortable and execute with confidence.

This is a riser to shot 340pts with the confidence of one of the best designs available, it all needs is its archer to let it perform.

The anodized finish is of the best quality, but it is a little thin so it has a metallic look, but on very cold days you may feel the riser quite cold. As I train very early it also condensates humidity.

It has taken me some time to enjoy this rise because of the grip, performance difference and winter break all add up to cause me a drastic drop in my personal score and performance. This I’ve been battling for 7 months now with hard work, and there is a lot of work to do yet. But this is not the bow but me. I was very much accustomed to my previous riser, as I said 10 years, to its balance, weight, sound, grip, that’s what has cost me so much work to get used to.

Inno AXT – Primeras Impresiones

INNO AXT – first Impressions

Hola a todos, estoy muy contento con mi maneral nuevo, está trabajando muy bien.

El sábado pasado recibí mi W&W INNO AXT, el cual es el hermano del Inno CXT pero de Aluminio.

Lo primero sentí la diferencia de peso, de 1280 a 1330gr. El balance por sí solo es hacia la parte de arriba, esto puede requerir un poco más de peso en el estabilizador central, pero no es algo importante.

El grip también es un poco diferente al de mi maneral anterior. En el Xpert el grip tiene una superficie de contacto redonda con la parte de la palma. El nuevo es más plano sin llegar al punto del Hoyt Athlete. Esto propicia una mayor estabilidad. Es casi como si se bloqueara el movimiento en el momento que llegas al anclaje. También la posición de la mano es ligeramente más profunda en la garganta del grip.

Al momento de jalar la cuerda el conjunto del balance, la estabilidad del grip y la geometría del arco dan la sensación de menor libraje, también el vuelo y la posición del grupo reportaron una flecha dura. Así que me dispuse a incrementar la potencia del arco hasta obtener un vuelo más uniforme y recuperar altura de mira. Cuando logré ese punto la sensación del libraje no cambió mucho, aunque se incrementó en 2lb la fuerza del arco (44lb total).

Necesito hacer una cuerda nueva, ya que la tengo actualmente queda un poco corta para este arco. También cambia la altura de la repisa con respecto al grip, ahora es más corta. Esto provocó que mi nocking point quedara un poco debajo de lo normal. Espero que con la nueva cuerda el ajuste me permita recuperar altura.

Sin hacer mayores ajustes el arco está agrupando muy bien a 70mt. El sonido es muy limpio y corto, característico de los Inno y su rigidéz. La reacción del arco es muy estable y precisa. Le sientan muy bien las ramas Winex, espero poder probar unas Inno o Wiawis. Estoy seguro que en unas semanas estará listo para romper mis records, esperemos que también alguno mundial.

Hello everyone, I’m very happy with my new riser, it’s developing quite well.

Last Saturday I received my new W&W Inno AXT, which is brother to the CXT but made from Aluminum.

First I noticed the weight difference from 1280 to 1330gr. Balance is towards the top of the riser, this might require an additional weight on the central or top stabilizer, but nothing important.

The grip is somewhat different from my previous riser. In the Xpert the grip the pressure surface is round; this is the surface in contact with the palm of the hand. The new grip is flatter on this section, which gives the bow better stability. Almost as if it blocked the hand movement just as one reaches the anchoring point. But it doesn’t reach the Hoyt Athlete grip flatness. Also the hand position is a bit deeper in the grip throat.

At the moment of pulling the string back all the characteristics of balance, grip stability and geometry give the sensation of less poundage. Also the arrow flight and grouping  reported for a stiff arrow. So I proceeded to increase poundage until I had good arrow flight and regain some speed. After this the poundage feeling wasn’t so different though a 2lb increase was made (total 44lb).

I need to make a new string as my current one is a bit short to reach the recommended Brace height. Also the distance from the grip throat to the arrow rest is shorter. This made my current knocking point to be lower than normal. I expect that with the new string the further adjustments gain me even more down-range.

Without any more adjustments the bow is grouping quite well at 70m. sound is clean and short, characteristic of the Inno and their rigidity. Bow’s reaction is very steady and precise. It takes well the Winex limbs, I intend to test it with some Inno or Wiawis limbs as soon as possible. I’m sure that in some weeks it will be ready to break my Personal Bests, may be some WR too.
